Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart Starts Their Chapter Off Strong

At Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, sophomores Charlotte Conway and Ciara Monteverde lead the school’s Girls Who Start (GWS) chapter. 

The 30-member chapter meets around once a month. Their meetings consist of two main points: 1) to remind themselves of the Girls Who Start mission to “inspire young women across the country and globally to become entrepreneurs” and how their Stone Ridge chapter is making an impact, and 2) to discuss the chapter’s future plans. 

Regarding a few of the chapter’s future plans, Conway and Monteverde said, “We are going to go to a Georgetown University pitch competition as a club. Eventually by the end of the year we will work our way up to doing our own pitch competition simulation called “Gator Tank,” Shark Tank named after our mascot.” These interactive opportunities follow the GWS goals, inspiring entrepreneurship amongst young women and immersing members in a business-based world.

The club formed at Stone Ridge this school year; Monteverde’s father, who works within Georgetown University’s entrepreneurship department, mentioned Girls Who Start to his daughter. Inspired, the two sophomores researched and prepared to open a Girls Who Start chapter. 

Looking ahead, Conway and Monteverde would like to see chapters working with each other. “As an organization we would love to see GWS hold more events where different chapters can come together to collaborate and share ideas,” they said. Furthermore, they would like to “domestically … spread more awareness of the GWS mission and embrace all who express desire in the business world.”

The Stone Ridge chapter, although relatively new, has already amassed a group of supporters and looks forward to growing in the future.
