How girls interested in entrepreneurship can spend their summer

BY JESLYN CHOI

Summer is often seen as a time to rest, travel, or catch up on sleep after a long school year. It is a season where students finally have a break from busy schedules. While relaxation is important, summer also gives students the space and time to explore personal interests. For girls who are beginning to feel interested in entrepreneurship, summer can become the perfect time to try new ideas and discover what truly excites them. Without the limitations of a typical school day, summer will provide an opportunity to take small risks, try new activities, and learn from experiences. These early moments of exploration will help shape future goals.

One meaningful way to spend the summer is by gaining practical experiences in a field you are interested in. For example, if a student dreams of running a cafe one day, working at a local cafe can be a valuable learning opportunity. From learning how to prepare drinks efficiently during busy hours to understanding how seating materials affect cleaning and maintenance, even small details teach important lessons that may be crucial points for the future. If someone is interested in jumping into the medical field, volunteering at a local hospital or clinic can offer early exposure. These experiences will allow students to better understand what daily work in different fields truly looks like.

If these opportunities feel difficult to access, summer camps and short programs can also be a great option. There are many types of camps, ranging from sports and leadership programs to research and business workshops. These environments allow students to try new activities, meet people with similar interests, and build independence in a safe setting. Even a short period can spark new interests or strengthen existing passions.

Spending time with family or close friends and traveling can also become meaningful learning experiences when approached with curiosity. Visiting new places, trying unfamiliar food, exploring museums, or experiencing different cultures can inspire new ideas and perspectives. Sometimes, inspiration comes from simple moments, such as discovering a new favorite dish or finding a place that feels motivating. These experiences help students better understand both themselves and the world around them.

While it may seem a bit early to start planning for summer, it’s never too early to think about how to use your time!
